Kathmandu, Sept. 28:Leaders of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) Tuesday met Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and expressed their strong reservation about understanding on the local level restructuring among the three major political parties.
During the meeting with Prime Minister Prachanda at the Prime Minister’s residential office in Baluwatar, Front leaders also made it clear that they would not accept any understanding on the local level restructuring forged before constitution amendment, the core demand of the Front.
Apart from the issue of the local level restructuring, they drew attention of the Prime Minister towards other two issues –the constitution amendment, and the process of withdrawing cases against those involved in unlawful activities during the previous Madhes movement and the Tikapur incident.
Talking to this daily, Terai Madhes Sadbhawana Party senior leader Ram Naresh Ray Yadav said that they urged Prime Minister Prachanda to expedite the process of constitution amendment to address their core demand of revising the provincial boundaries of the seven states.
“We also requested Prachanda to withdraw the cases against their cadres allegedly involved in unlawful events during the last year’s Madhes movement,” Yadav stated.
PM’s chief political advisor Chakrapani Khanal said that the UDMF leaders expressed their concerns over the restructuring of local level and the government’s plan of constitution amendment.
“Prachanda assured the Madhesi leaders that he will take every step regarding the issues raised by them by consulting them and respecting their spirit as well,” an official website of Prachanda quoted Khanal as saying.
