Kathmandu, Sept 28:Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi has said the government has realised that a political understanding was essential to hold the elections of all three tiers.
Addressing a meeting of the Legislature-Parliament’s State Affairs Committee today, Minister Nidhi said,”Ongoing preparations for the constitution amendment is meant to find a political consensus on holding the elections.”
The preparations for amending the country’s main law and formulation of electoral acts are going on simultaneously, he said, urging one and all not to doubt on the timely poll.
The agreement on the creation of local units on the basis of Ilakas was an attempt to find a middle path to sort the disputes over the restructuring of the local bodies, he said.
On the occasion, he briefed the meeting about the search efforts undertaken for former Home Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire gone missing in a jeep plunge into the Trishuli River last Sunday and the fatal bus accident that occurred at Marpak of Dhading yesterday.
The meeting was summoned to take stock of the progress on the election preparations and formulation of required acts to hold the elections of all three levels from the government and Election Commission.
