Economic empowerment of women stressed

Kathmandu, June 13: Economic empowerment of women is a must to ensure their rightful place in the decision-making level, women political leaders and rights activists said.
They were expressing their views at an interaction with women leaders organised by Sankalpa, Women’s Alliance for for Peace, Justice and Democracy Monday. Development of women entrepreneurship was the best means of economically empowering women which would ultimately help them to get their space in the decision-making bodies, they said.
Lawmaker Chhaya Sharma argued that the constitution has not treated Nepali women as a ‘complete human being’ in case of citizenship issue.
Interparty Women Network former Chair Sashi Shrestha was of the view of revising the election laws and regulations in view of the local polls likely to be held in near future so as to guarantee women representation in the executive level of the local bodies.
CPN ( Unified ) politburo member Kalyani Shah and representatives from Nepal Women Association, All Nepal Women Association, Sancharika Samuha, National Federation of the Disabled- Nepal, Mitini Nepal and Women Security Pressure Group called for bringing the rights guaranteed by the constitution to women into practice.
