Kathmandu, Sept. 21: The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC) is set to study complaints registered against proposed ambassadors to India and China, on Wednesday.
A meeting of the Committee will look into the complaints soon after the Committee Secretariat submits them to the Committee.
Altogether three complaints have been filed at the PHSC Secretariat within the 10-day deadline expired on September 16.
All complaints are against the proposed ambassador to India, Deep Kumar Upadhyay.
A cabinet meeting held on September 1 had decided to recommend Nepali Congress leader Upadhyay and former Chief Secretary Lilamani Paudyal as ambassadors to India and China respectively.
The previous KP Sharma Oli-led government had recalled Upadhyay from New Delhi, accusing him of being incompetent.
As per the Parliamentary regulations, the PHSC will formally start hearing on recommendations of the two ambassadors after its meeting will conclude discussion with the respective complainants on their complaints.
Meanwhile, the Judicial Council forwarded the name of senior advocate Ram Prasad Sitaula, who has been recommended for the post of the Council member, to the PHSC.
On September 13, a meeting of the Nepal Bar Association had recommended senior advocate Sitaula for the Council member.
The Committee has received a recommendation letter regarding the proposed appointment of Sitaula, secretary at the PHSC Druba Prasad Ghimire said.
Ghimire further said that the Wednesday meeting might decide on the hearing process of advocate Sitaula.
Sitaula’s name has been forwarded to the
Hearing Committee as per the constitutional provision that mentions mandatory hearing of those recommended for
the post of ambassadors, officials at constitutional bodies and judges.
The Sushil Koirala-led government had recommended Sitaula for the Judicial Council member but the Oli-government had withdrawn the recommendation.
